Area of Design – Art & Design Education and Inspiration

Area of Design is a free educational resource dedicated to art, design and creative professionals from around the world. Founded in 2002 and based in the United States, the platform describes its mission as showcasing creative talent and providing educational and inspirational material without advertising or a commercial profit focus.

The website covers a broad range of creative disciplines rather than concentrating on a single area of design. Its scope includes architecture, art, automotive design, branding, digital design, fashion, furniture, graphic and interior design, illustration, jewelry, packaging, photography, print, sculpture and technology. This makes Area of Design a multidisciplinary resource for people interested in visual arts and professional design.

A major part of the site consists of profiles and interviews with established and emerging artists, designers and other creative professionals. Featured subjects include painters, photographers, jewelry designers and other specialists whose work, creative processes and careers are presented to readers.

Area of Design also maintains extensive resource collections. These point visitors toward professional associations, design organizations, museums, educational institutions, events, exhibitions, publications, design centers and selected studios and independent designers. The resources therefore complement the editorial features with practical reference material for students, professionals and design enthusiasts.

The primary purpose of areaofdesign.com is education, discovery and creative inspiration. It functions as an independent art and design knowledge resource rather than a commercial design agency, portfolio service or online marketplace.
