1st SPOT – Web Directory & Internet Resources

1st SPOT is a general web directory designed to help visitors discover websites and online resources through a structured collection of categorized links. Rather than concentrating on one particular subject, the website covers a wide spectrum of interests and organizes external resources into major sections and more specific topics.

The directory includes a large leisure section covering music, MP3 resources, games, sports, travel, movies and entertainment. Financial and commercial subjects include business, banking, investing, stocks, venture capital, careers, auctions, classified advertising and shopping. Separate sections provide links relating to health, family life, parenting, beauty, gardening and other everyday interests.

Technology is another substantial part of the directory. The computer section contains resources dealing with Java, Perl, Visual Basic, Linux, GNU, software, domains and web development. Knowledge-oriented sections provide access to reference material, experts, news, magazines and other informational resources. Political topics and resources organized around individual countries and regions are also represented.

In addition to browsing the directory structure, visitors can use search functions to locate information. The website also provides a submission function through which URLs can be suggested for inclusion. This combination of categorized browsing, search and website submission reflects the traditional structure of a manually organized Internet directory.

The website's content spans many unrelated subjects, so none of its individual categories adequately represents the service as a whole. Its defining function is the collection, organization and presentation of links to external websites.

Overall, 1st SPOT is best classified as a general-purpose web directory and Internet resource collection. Its central purpose is website discovery through thematic categories rather than publishing original editorial articles, providing software or operating as a specialized search engine.
